What is a HEIC file?

A HEIC file is a photo saved in Apple's High Efficiency format. It is what your iPhone uses by default, because it keeps the same picture quality as a JPG at roughly half the file size.

The catch is support. Macs and iPhones open HEIC without any trouble, but Windows, many websites and some apps don't. That is why a photo you send from your iPhone can turn up as a file nobody can open.

If you need a photo that works everywhere, convert it to JPG. Drop your HEIC files into the converter below and download them as JPGs.
